Installation of the Timing Belt Kit CT 1045 K1 for Renault 1.2 16 V

Problem:
Tension pulley fails after a short period of operation, possibly with the barrel jacket separating from the bearing core. The barrel jacket usually displays heavy traces of rubbing. The back of the timing belt often shows signs of severe damage, and may even be completely worn due to the action of heat.

Probable cause:
Due to the eccentric being rotated in the wrong direction, the tension pulley reaches an impermissible position and makes contact with a protruding edge in the motor pinion.

The tension pulley is thereby completely or partially mechanically blocked and the belt which continues to turn is overheated on the barrel jacket. The level of damage depends on the running time.

Remedy:
Always install the timing belt exactly according to the manufacturer's instructions and in particular, comply with the rotational direction of the eccentric for tensioning (anti-clockwise here). Otherwise the tension pulley can come into contact with a protruding edge and short-term failure is very likely.
